There are a lot of articles, books, podcasts and videos available; to really understand bitcoin you have to begin your education by learning what money is and how it became what it is today.

The first document to read is the whitepaper on bitcoin, posted October 31, 2008. If the white paper is too technical, bitcoin.co.uk has an easy-to-read breakdown of the concepts.

Then it explains how the bitcoin software works in detail with illustrations. It is a quick 300-page book to read and keep as a resource.

The Bitcoin Dog is a short 36 page explainer on how mining works from the point of view of a dog. It does a deep dive into the bitcoin code for those wanting to learn the gritty details explained in as simple as possible language.
